Can name servers and domain be hosted separately?

Hi,
Can the name servers and the domain be hosted separately? For example, I have name servers at ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. The domain mydomain.com is hosted on the above name servers. Is it possible to host the domain mydomain.com on different name servers (say ns1.somedomain.com, and ns2.somedomain.com)? And still use the name servers (ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com) as usual? Thanks.

Yes it is just as long as where you want to host the domain has a different name server
