1U Colo - does depth matter (19.25 vs. 25.6 inches)

I'm looking at building a 1U server for myself which I'll want to colo after a while. I notice that 1U server cases from http://rackmountpro.com/ are available in either 19.25" depth, 24.4" depth, or 25.6" depth.

Do datacenters/colo companies charge more for a deeper 1U server? Do any accept the 19.25" servers but not the deeper servers? Is there any reason to go for the less-deep 1U case?

Most data center will tell you to use the 19" . Check with the datacenter you're planning to colocate with.

Thanks - I don't know the datacenter I'm planning to colocate with yet but I will want to keep my options open as much as possible.

Yes most ust 19" width racks, but the depth is much more. We have 36" depth racks and do no charge extra if it is under 36".

    Hope that helps!

We also use 36" deep cabinets so you should have no problem with the dimensions you posted. Most cabinets are at least 30" deep so I doubt you will have a problem with whatever colo you choose.

The key isn't the width, it's the length. If you are in open face racks, then shorter is better. The dog ears in the front on most cases can't support the weight of several servers on top of them.

If you are in a cabinet, this isn't as big of a deal because some cases will mount in the back for added support.
