Where's best to find a programmer

Afternoon all,

i think the title there pretty much sums up the request for information

Basically i am looking for some coding work to be done, but you know what i have no idea where to get a programmer from. I mean are there like auctions for PHP programmers? Can i go down to the local store and pick one up in a box or is there some secret place they all hang out?

silly questions i realise but for somebody who can code a 'hello world' script and still get it wrong, this is a serious question.

I have used cgi-lance in the past but it always find its the same person bids without actually reviewing the post and so on.

so ay recomendations?

- Benjamin

Maybe http://www.scriptlance.com/
I believe that other members will also propose similar websites. Good luck with finding the right person.

There's programmermeetdesigner.com which is new-ish and has a good rep (never used it personally though) and rentacoder.com which has a teriable rep.

Also heard good things from people using elance.com, been around a while and has a wide userbase.

Just watch out, often best to pick the guy with the best communication skills rather than the guy that has a list of what he says he's proficient in or even the guy that says its all possible for $0.25

http://www.odesk.com is another one... The one nice feature of that one as an employer is the screenshots of the contractor programmer's screen while he's supposed to be working on your project.
