Media Temple & Webtrends

Do any Media Temple users on the Grid currently use Webtrends? I need to know if the raw log files produced will play nicley with Webtrends before signing up for a new account (please spare me any MT bashing).

We were on Dreamhost but had to move as their log files didn't produce parameters such as Cookie - URL querystring - Referrer which is imperative for our Webtrends use.

Any insights you all might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry - should have explained. I did ask MT sales. They said they had no experience with Webtrends so couldn't help. I then asked for their Apache log file template or an example log file and again - they couldn't help.

The logs that are accessible from the web control panel contain just GET and POST queries of this format:
Code:
207.46.98.141 - - [26/Jan/2007:04:37:21 -0800] "GET /rednine.org/robots.txt HTTP/1.0" 404 276 "-" "msnbot/1.0 (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)"
There is the option to also include errors in logs (404,403,etc), but I don't run that so don't have an example. This is from the web control panel, I'm honestly not sure if there is a more detailed log somewhere on the server that we can view with SSH access. Hopefully that answers your question to some extend =D

as you say - it's a start, so thanks very much for that. If anyone can offer any further insights that would be a tremendous help.

what kind of format do you need? cPanel hosts provide raw log files, so I would imagine those would work for you.

Has the bar ever been set so low? Why would you want to host with a company that has a sales/support team that cannot or will not answer a simple non-technical regarding their log format? That does not bode well for any legitimate more complex issues that may be encountered after you are being hosted.

You would think that failure to answer a question of this nature would get them crossed off of your list of potential hosts.

Granted it does sound a bit odd. however my original support question asked specifically if the log files produced were compatible with WebTrends. They couldn't offer any guidance on this as it's not a package they use. As far as their support goes it can't possibly be any worse than Dreamhost and all other support queires have been answered promptly and with great detail.
