Inexpensive VoIP solution?

Okay, I'm looking for an inexpensive VoIP solution that is software based. Mainly like Skype but with PBX type features. I'd like extensions and what not, Is this possible?

A@H aka TrixBox

http://www.trixbox.org/

Help full info can be found here http://aussievoip.com.au/wiki/

o yea TrixBox is free but you do need a server.

You would use a 'Soft Phone' i like X-Lite with the trixbox or get a voip phone and setup the SIP.

Trixbox is based on Asterisk so it supports lots of hardware (analog lines, digital PRI lines, etc.) as well as VoIP-only connectivity via SIP or IAX. If you do not want to physically connect a phone line to your box, you can obtain a number from a ITSP. The rates differ depending if you choose a flat rate or metered plan. Flat rate typically will give you 2 channels max, metered as many as you wish on the same number (within reason). We're using metered DIDs, it works out to be cheaper for us.

Can anyone recommend a SIP provider? All I really want is one 800 number with 4 internal extensions. The extensions have to be able to call out.

Thanks for all the help guys!

BTW I'm in the US and most of our calling is done in the US.

For sip providers, I'd reccommend checking out:

les.net
TelaSIP

In general, the Voip-Info wiki is a huge resource for all things voip. There is also an active voip forum at DSL reports. As for a software PBX, there is a fork of Asterisk that may be worth looking at, OpenPBX.

Checkout globe7.com, it appears to be one of the cheapest voip providers with wide range of services.

o.k after all it just was valentines day and thats my name too ;-)
So, let me post a killer link.

http://www.voipcheap.com
http://www.voipcheap.com/en/rates.html

I use them since 2 years and they have the best quality and the lowest prices I am aware off, anybody correct me if I am wrong. I tried 10 or more service providers.

Thats my valentine present for everybody. If you are smart, sign up ;-)

I used to phone a lot and I am down right now to max. 5$ a month.

But as Prohacker said it might not work for everybody.

Read the small print, You charge the account with 10$ and have 300 minutes or so every week free in the countries they mention. If you call mobile phones or other countries you pay. Make sure you charge the account again after 3 months or so otherwise the account credit becomes 0$. Read their terms for the exact time frame they currently use.

Being able to make calls does not mean somebody can call you (at least with VoIP), so you also might want to get an incoming phone number.

Best regards
