I've got a customer who would like to have TomCat installed in his hosting account.
I've some question before doing it, it kindda scares me..
1- I have apache 1.3.
2- I don't want every child process of apache to have an additional 15MB..
3- I don't know a lot about Java... Is it as easy as «port install» it in my FreeBSD?
Basically, I would really like to accomodate that customer but I also doesnt want to mess everything for a single customer.
I would like some advice.
What hardware are you running? Most modern hardware should handle Tomcat just fine. I do not believe that a ports install exists (though I could be wrong). There are several pre-requisites that require some configuration. Are you running any sort of control panel on this system?
I have Dual Xeon but I'm also hosting some heavily visited blogs, meeting sites and a increasingly popular free blog platform services...
If by installing TomCat, I'm adding an additional overhaul to every child process apache create thats just not worth it ramwise.
I'm running FreeBSD with CPanel.
Thanks a lot man.
