NFS slow speed when moving many small files

Hello I have mounted NFS part. but when copying a big file the speed is OK like 5-6MB/s but when starting to copying all other (small files) speed is like 20-200KB.s What is the reason and is it way to improve the speed or use other way to mount drive remotely and preserve the same permissions after backup ?

    Thanks.

Try a google search. There are many variables that could come into play here such as: client/host OS, network setup, kernel parameters, etc.

    Hello,
I have tryed. Kernel is standard CentOS 3.8 2.4.21-47.0.1
    Connection is Full Duplex 100Mbits.
    The fstab values are:

    rw,hard,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,nfsvers=3,tcp

But the traffic when it starts to make backup and dealing with a lot of small files is slow.
What may be the reason ?
