Anyone know any companies that sell Russian Dedicated or Shared hosting - I have a client who cannot host a site in the United States due to some laws and asked me to find a company in Russia or China that could host the site.
I'm not a legal expert, so I'm not saying I'm correct in anyway, but this is to the best of my knowledge.
France and The Netherlands are places that tolerate P2P/Download of sorts the best. Russia did used to be the best, but their laws will probably change soon. (Though I am not a lawyer)
In The Netherlands:
Leaseweb.com doesn't mind Torrent Sites or linking at all, they host some of the largest torrent sites in the world.
Ovh.com Only for residents of few EU countries, but someone on the forums does resell them. I know of a forum that links to content that is hosted by OVH and OVH doesn't seem to mind.
iKoula.com Can't verify this one but their AUP only mentions hosting copyright content, not linking or torrents, I'm assuming they don't mind linking or trackers but you may want to check.
In some places such as Germany/Australia, it is even illegal to link to content. In the US it is not, you must reply with all DMCA requests you receive though, and very few US hosts allow linking because of scrae tactics.
Search slyck.com or p2pnet.net for France French Netherlands or even piratereports.com forums for more infromation on copyright laws and P2P toleration. If you want official advice that you can trust I suggest contacting a lawyer or such in those countries, as you can't believe everything on the net.
Political/Freedom of Speech content is rather different to illegal file sharing that most seem to be referring to in the (rather old) thread below.
The best freedom of speech is generally had in the Scandinavian countries, specifically Sweden (EU) or Iceland (EEA) both of whom have laws protecting expression of opinion - Iceland is behind the International Modern Media Institute which developed a set of model freedom of speech laws now mostly implemented or being implemented in law in the country http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...edia_Institute.
If you really need to be outside Europe, I've been told Malaysia has a reputation for leaving things alone also as long as you don't criticise anything Malaysian. Russia and China most certainly do not share that reputation!
