Is it that you are going to compile new server on a live server ? If yes, then hold it to a previous stable version, upgrading it right away to the latest can be dangerous at some instances. Since the kernel you mentioned is the latest and things are just starting for the hackers lol.. if they find something as a flaw they can easily compromise the server within seconds I say.
So hold it !
As for troubles, I did that on my laptop, it goes fine with the update. Still it is local system
It's perfectly safe to use 184.108.40.206 I've done hundreds of boxes with no issues. As long as you keep the experimental configuration options to a minimum that is. One box was flakey but I believe that was traced back to hardware going bad.
Worst case scenario you edit your bootloader and go back to the rpm kernel.
