move db using SSH
how can i move db from old server to new server using SSH ?
(both of server are UNİX )
Depending on the path to the MySQL DB. This would be the general command
(ssh to new server)
tar cvf mysql_backup.tgz /var/lib/mysql/db_name
scp mysql_backup.tgz [email protected]:/var/lib/mysql/
tar xvf mysql_backup.tgz
chown -R mysql:mysql db_name/
Make sure you lock the tables (or shutdown mysql) before trying to tar them though, if anything is being written to them while you are doing this the copy will be broken.
You may use the mysqldump command to copy database.
mysqldump db_name > db_name.sql
Then copy this sql file to the new server and restore using the following command.
mysql db_name < db_name.sql
and then grant the necessary privileges.
You may use the --compatible option if the versions on the two servers differ.
vBulletin has a pretty good manual on moving databases..
