I host over 10 vB large sites - much more problems than they are worth really - but people seem to like it, so I put up with it. I have bandwidth problems with the bigger ones - but since I get paid anyway it's not my problem. There are few bandwidth hogs as VB with popular newbe webmasters.
It's also best to "remind" hosted webmasters to upgrade their forums whatever script they use
Ehmm.. No! Our experience with XMB was a nightmare, it is full of bugs, all of our customers complained and when I talked with one of the developers about bug fixes he told me after days that he couldn't find where he put the zip file with updates (they weren't going to officially release this bugfix for whatever reason so it could not be downloaded on their website)!.. From what I've understood, the original developers left the project and a few kids took over.
Anywho, why are you people taking this thread offtopic? The poor guy is wondering if it's a "good idea" to put a forum on a website offering design/hosting services and not which forum software is better.
wtf? i have always used XMB...it is setup in literally 5 min, and have NEVER (i mean NEVER) had a problem with it!
there is a large community now offering hacks and fixes for any problems. this has gone beyond 'developers', ok they release new versions, but the community and their codes have made it what it is now!

I assure you there's nothing wrong with our servers. The bug was in the version (1.6 I believe) that came with CPanel and it caused users not to be able to edit posts. Also it's not just that, I simply don't trust the developers of XMB. Of course, this is entirely my opinion and experience with this message board. If you think otherwise, then I’m not standing in your way to use it.
people he asked is we think he should put up a forum, not which one should he put up.
I put up a forum for my customers on my hosting site and only 1 person used it, and an empty forum on a hosting companies page does not look good to potential clients. So i would only recomend putting one up if you think people are going to use it.
However it would be a nice thing to offer support to and possibly having a end result of some of your clients helping other clients, which means less support tickets for you to answer.
On a design companies page... I wouldnt really see the point. The only thing anyone would ever ask is if the design company was reliable and did good work. At least thats my opinion.
