The camera was a Nikon D50 DSLR. I used a lot of heat packs, and I couldn't spend too much time with the camera out of the case. A few times I did, and it took a while for the camera to be functional again. I used two layers of glove liners and handwarmer packs, and that was mostly adequate combined with using the handwarmer pockets of my parka. If I took my gloves off for more than a few seconds I'd get some painful reminders of why that should be avoided, but fortunately no permanent damage. Pencils were also useful for pushing buttons. I sometimes wore a headlamp to have enough light to find the right buttons. Many people have noted that a design deficiency of the D50 is that some settings are displayed on an LCD on top that is not backlit. Also some icons such as white balance settings and self-timer and remote are very small. That could be a bit of a struggle at times, because I mostly had to do without my glasses outdoors. Most antifog products had pretty short-lived effectiveness. My old plastic frames got broken in Barrow when I put them in the wrong pocket inside my parka, and I think it was the waist belt of my pack that probably broke them. I usually had some extra layers of clothes in the pack just in case. I had glo-mitts, and I sometimes used them, but the bulk could be a hassle. It could fit over one glove liner but not a double layer. I had an extension on the pack belt to accommodate the extra bulk of my down parka. The fur hat sometimes created an annoyance at first, often falling over my eyes without my glasses to hold it up when I used just a neoprene mask to protect my face. I got better results when I used a medium weight balaclava, which beside protecting my face helped to hold the hat just right. I sometimes used the parka hood, but that limited my field of view. There is actually quite a bit of vehicle traffic in Barrow.
Baffin says my boots are "comfort rated to -94°F", but an hour or two in the -20's, and my toes could get chilly without some assistence from a heat pack. Fortunately because of my wide feet I bought them about a size "too long".
