    Apache Tweaks

    Code:
    ServerType standalone
    ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"
    LockFile /var/run/httpd.lock
    PidFile /var/run/httpd.pid
    ScoreBoardFile logs/apache_runtime_status
    ResourceConfig /dev/null
    AccessConfig /dev/null

    Timeout 70
    KeepAlive On
    MaxKeepAliveRequests 500
    KeepAliveTimeout 1
    MinSpareServers 3
    MaxSpareServers 13
    StartServers 7
    MaxClients 500
    MaxRequestsPerChild 50
Whats the best setting to handle 350 users online on a IPB Board at the same time. the above is my current setting and with that setting Apache is eating huge amounts of CPU and I have apache Server version: Apache/1.3.37 (Unix)

Don't ask me to upgrade to latest simply answer my question. My hardware is fine but only apaching eating mass amount of Ram and CPU

    Timeout 30
    KeepAliveTimeout 3
    MaxRequestsPerChild 0

3 most noticeable things at first glance.

Another option is to compile Apache with lingerd - http://www.iagora.com/about/software/lingerd/ (and also disable KeepAlive) then put all of the images, CSS, javascript files of your forum on lighttpd, and set it up on say static.yourdomain.com. I have no doubt that if you do this, you'll be able to handle your load very well.

I have been looking into this. What kind of problems can the top config cause?

    This I mean
    Timeout 30
    KeepAliveTimeout 3
    MaxRequestsPerChild 0
