Best Server Racks
We are looking to set up a cage with three server racks.
We will primarily be using Dell PowerEdge 1950 servers, which are approximately 29" deep.
We were thinking of getting 36" deep racks so that the cable management will fit inside the rack.
We don't need full enclosures, so open racks are fine. Maybe we might want a side panel on the outer racks, but that's not a requirement.
So a couple questions for you guys...
1.) Where you do go for your server rack needs?
2.) Do you think a 36" deep rack is necessary, or will a 30" rack be fine with the cables hanging outside of it?
At the moment, the rack I like the most is this one:
Do you know of any racks that might be better designed than this?
We use Great Lakes cabinets and racks.
36" racks will protect your cabling but give you less space between the back of your racks and the cage wall if space is a concern.
racksolutions.com has good 4 post racks, and not that expensive.
There is also middleatlantic if you want full doors, sides, top, etc.
We use APC's open 4 post rack. Nice quality and not terribly expensive.

Belkin racks. 4 post square hole racks. No complaints and very inexpensive.
check craigslist and froogle to see any local options.
I think Dell sells cabinets. If you're getting 3 racks worth of servers from them, I'm sure you can get a good price on the cabinets, and you'll know they are compatible.
Ebay is your friend. Don't buy new cabinets it's a total waste of money.
I'd get the deepest racks you can get. At least 36". All the ones we are getting now will be 40".

The APC AR2100BLK is a really nice cabinet. 42" deep, standard width. It's very nice for working with the APC pdus. The AP7934 zero-U PDU literally just slides in via three rubber bolts, takes seconds to install them. They're pretty easy to adjust, and cheap. I just got 4 from CDW for $730 each and am about to buy another 11 to finish up my cage. The reason they're so cheap right now is that APC has discontinued them.
those are the black VX series cabinets right?
If so, NICE cabinets.
We have a number of the older APC AR1000 cabinets that I would like to replace as they are only 36" deep and can't fully fit dell 2950s w/cable arm, and other various large servers.
The AR2100 is this server:

Do you actually use the cable arms on the 2950s? I wired up 300 1750s with the cable management arms, but eventually took them off.. I guess with the 2U servers it probably would have been a bit better, but the 1U really cluttered it up, plus the arms seemed to sag in such a way that sometimes sliding one server in would knock another one out of whack.
