    CentOS: Install/Enable Mod_Rewrite

    I have been trying to get mod_rewrite to work on my CentOS server running the BQ.

    Now what i need is to be allowed to use .htaccess files to use mod rewrite to allow me to use SEO urls.

    Anyone know what needs to be done on CentOs, to be able to do it?

    I have done the only instruction on Centos about it:
    # vi /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

    FIND SECTION BEGINNING
    <Directory "/var/www/html">

    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks

    AND CHANGE
    AllowOverride None
    TO
    AllowOverride All

    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all

    </Directory>

    SAVE FILE AND THEN

    # service httpd restart
    Although i still get the "500 Internal Server Error" message.

    it's probably a problem with your .htaccess file. If you have an error in that, it'll cause the 500 message.

    Can you post your .htaccess file? Or, empty it and see if you still have the message?

    You could also look in the error log and see if there are more details.

    Just a note, its a new installation. So ive never used mod rewrite before which is why i believe i need to do something further.

    I have some test data in at the minute:
    Code:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^index.htm$ contact-us.htm
    As for the error log:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^index.htm$ contact-us.htm

    Using CentOS & BlueQuartz
    Thanks for assistance.

    JUST HAD A BRAIN STORM
    I remember the same problem when i used the RAQ3 Os, when i did not Enable Frontpage Extensions the .htaccess file caused this error.

    Damn, How do i allow the use of .htaccess files general then, on CentOs?
