    High bandwidth webhost?

    Hi,

my site is currently hosted by GoDaddy.com (big mistake), and now that I've used up about 1 TB of bandwidth (of my promised 2 TBs), they've suspended my site and trying to extort me--rather than paying $15 a month for a shared hosting account, they want me to pay $270 a month for a dedicated server, WITH THE SAME (2 TB) BANDWIDTH LIMIT!

So does anyone know of any good hosts that offer 5 GBs storage and 3 TBs+ of bandwidth a month for reasonable prices? That's all I care about (I couldn't care less about Linux / Windows, etc.). Almost all the webhosts I've looked at offer at most 2 TBs bandwidth, and for those that offer more I'm guessing that if I tried to actually use up the supposed bandwidth limit, they'd pull a similar trick on me long before I reached the "limit".

Thanks for your time and help.

What is your definition of reasonable? You do realize that almost any host who offers that kind of bandwidth on a shared server is going to have similar restrictions as godaddy. If you really are using that much, you might want to consider the dedicated box.

I'm willing to go to a virtual-dedicated / dedicated server--I'm just looking for one that doesn't cost too much and offers more than 2 TBs of bandwidth a month, or some plan by which the bandwidth limit can be increased as it needs to be as my site grows. (GoDaddy.com's uninformed help-service refused to offer any more than 2 TBs when I asked them about it, and all of their plans max out at 2 TBs, as if no one could every possibly need more...)

Sorry. $100 a month or less, though I might be pushed to slightly more.

Yes for bandwidth like that you will most likely have to get a VPS or Dedicated Server. However also with that much BW you are most likely to need a dedicater server. And I am sure it will cost you more then $100.00 a month. Good luck to you.

DreamHost is giving away bandwidth over there, you may want to hit them with a email and see what they say when you tell them you will be using all the bandwidth they promise you.

I also cant help but, what are you hosting that requires so much bandwidth?

Yes, I realize that now, but didn't realize that that was the game webhosts play when I signed up. I just want a good host which doesn't BS its customers like that.

I would say that you can get a dedicated box with the bandwidth you are looking for for way under the amount you are paying at Godaddy even with managed service which you may or may not need.

well if you find a shared host that actually allows 2TB for $15.00/month give me a shout

considering that cogent gives the cheapest dedicated bandwidth at 10$ per 1mbit ( aproxx 320GB per month) its hard to believe that goddady or any other hosting company can actually deliver what they promise

Hentai / doujinshi (hand-drawn anime-style porn, for those of you that don't know). I get 9,000 hits a day, 6.5 MBs per hit on average.

I'm just pissed because I thought I could get a 2 TB a month website for $15 a month (GoDaddy's shared-hosting premium plan), but now it turns out I have to pay $100+ a month if I actually want a 2 TB a month website. Talk about misleading... I mean, what do I get with dedicated hosting that I don't already get with shared hosting? No more bandwidth or disc-space, and a 10x price increase. Maybe my site will have lower latency, but that's about it.

Well unfortunately, when dealing with high bandwidth amounts like that on shared boxes there is always a good part of the Terms of Service that should be read.

HostFrog is right about what he just said. It is unfortunate but that is why a lot of people are trying to spread the word about those kind of host that mention allowing a ton of bandwidth including unlimited when it is just not real. I am sorry about your issues but that is why I and others have told you to go to VPS or dedicated because those prices are higher and offer around the same bandwidth as shared plans but web hosts can actually afford giving you that type of bandwidth if you are paying $100 + dollars. Now I am not saying all hosts do this but many do and that is why you should read TOS and email support and read reviews.

I can't find any hosts that offer more than 2 TBs Bandwidth a month, dedicated servers or otherwise, so should I be looking for something more like unmetered 100Mbps or something?

I have other problems with GoDaddy as well--in the 3 months I've been with them I've had only about 90% uptime, not counting this incident.

Well first off, what is your budget you are willing to spend on a solution like this?

You will simply not find 100Mbps let alone unmetered for that price I do not believe. Bandwidth is expensive, the provider must pass these charges on to you. With a site that is getting that much bandwidth, the revenue that it will generate more than likely will pay for the dedicated services you need to run it. If not, you may want to rethink your service or website

100mbit unmetered is 30TB a month and itll cost u 10x100$$ for the bandwidth alone excluding power and hardware

the whole (?) hosting insdustry is based on massive overselling, i mean if goddady's every customer even used on 10% of the bandwidth advertised for the shared hosting i dont see how they would stay in business for long

    Talk about misleading...
yep its like the wild west

    caveat emptor

once again point me to a shared host that actually allows 2TB+ being used for under 20$ or dedicated server provider that advertises 100mbit unmetered but actually manages to provide more than 2TB outbound

So you're saying that if I buy 10mbit unmetered (about 3.2 TBs) hosting, that they will in fact only be able to deliver far less than 3.2 TBs bandwidth per month?

Make sure its DEDICATED not shared bandwidth!! 10mbit dedicated shouldnt be much of a problem for all the providers in here

also explain to your host that you excepect to use 1-3 TB and have a written reply from

    Yes - it's all in the fine-print.

a 10mbit uplink does not mean you get the full 10mbit.

You know what they say about ***umption....

There are a lot of people who wish the same. Unfortunately, it's just not that easy to find anymore.

Well after looking for a while I found http://www.fdcservers.net/fdcvps.html which seems pretty good--supposedly 3 TBs (10Mbps) virtual-dedicated server for $79 a month, and 100Mbps for $99 a month. If they can actually deliver that much I'll be pleased. Do you think they're for real or just BSing?

fdcservers and their resselers have a good reputation, and most likely they will keep their promise
