Auracle has a free solution: http://auraclesupport.com/free.php
Last I checked Cerberus offered a free license as well.█ Mike from Zoodia.com

Take a look at www.intellodesk.com.
We're rolling it out and I've been pretty impressed with the very personal support received from Jason & Mark.

You get what you pay for. When it comes to support you don't want to mess around. I just installed Kayako and it's great! Well worth the $$$. I have and am stilling using Cerberus on another server. It works well but I'd have to say my new Kayako has beat it by far.

IntelloDesk is what I'm using. Works perfect, it's simple, yet powerfull, and a very easy to customize!
I was using Cerberus but the Interface (both Admin and Client) is something ugly (IMHO).█ Nahuel Lanzón - nahuel.lanzon[@]lemuriacorp.com

cPsupport (by cPanel). It's in fCGI I think. To be honest, I've only read about it on cPanel forums and their demo is broken...

OsTicket is pretty good from what I remember of it. However, they've discontinued the 1.x release (i'm sure you can still find it somewhere) and they're totally redoing v2, which should be out soon...might be up your alley.

You should check out eTicket. It is based on OsTicket 1.x and has current releases.
