Broadcast message from root (Sat Jan 6 16:01:09 2007):

    cPanel Layer 2 Install Complete

I got this message while leaving my computer on over the weekend. And suddenly find that my mail server aint' working. So i tried to restart exim

    root@kuching [~]# service exim restart
    Shutting down exim: [FAILED]
Shutting down antirelayd: [ OK ]
Shutting down spamd: [ OK ]
    Starting exim: 2007-01-07 20:47:43 non-existent configuration file(s): /etc/exim.conf
    [FAILED]
    Starting exim-smtps: 2007-01-07 20:47:43 non-existent configuration file(s): /etc/exim.conf
    [FAILED]
    Starting antirelayd: [ OK ]
    Starting spamd: [ OK ]

I tried to reinstall exim by # /scripts/exim4 --force

It doesn't work again, so I tried to update again # /scripts/upcp --force

Doesn't work! What should I do now?

    Greetings,

If you haven't made any custom modifications to exim then you might try opening a support ticket with your vendor (or to cPanel if you bought a direct license). If you don't have any sort of managed support you could check out some of the companies that provide managed support like TouchSupport or ServerWizards. You'll find lots of good suggestions around the forum for good companies to provide a sysadmin service.

I cannot receive emails or send emails at all right now.. I need to find answers directly which is why I am posting this..

    Talking

That could be your problem ;-)

I've only heard bad things about PSM.

I don't know cPanel very well but isn't there a script called fixeverything?

    /script/fixeverything might do the trick.

    /scripts/buildeximconf: fatal: /etc/exim.conf.dist is missing

    # /scripts/eximup --force
    No luck

I copy exim.conf.dist from another server and run /scripts/eximup --force and it looks fine.

However when trying to test by sending an email from GMAIL to my server, it bounces back inside my GMAIL

    Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 550-"The recipient cannot be verified. Please check all recipients of this
550 message to verify they are valid."

you may wanna get your hearing checked, do a search for psm on wht and you'll see 10x more positive recommendations for them than negative

ive never had a problem with them, and im sure without even knowing what happened here that they resolved it as fast as possible

What errors are being logged to /var/log/exim_mainlog or /var/log/exim_paniclog?
If you're in FreeBSD it is /var/log/exim/mainlog or /var/log/exim/paniclog

I pull back what has been posted on earlier state.

Actually they are working on my mail server during the waiting period.
But just that I am quite panic during the moment and try to find resolution by myself.

PSM done a great job to assist me during my urgent situation !!!

My mail server is up and running now.

    Thanks to PSM!

My case is due after this reply.

You'll get good answers, usually pretty quickly, at the CPanel website: forums.cpanel.net . Search the forums first, odds are any problem have has come up there before.

Check /etc/localdomains to make sure that it is not empty.
