    F 1&1 - Need Alternative Host

1&1 have gotten lazy and haven't been fulfilling my needs lately haha.
I'm looking for the same package/hosting around the same cost. Any ideas?
Also, I host for several friends that put crap up (own ftp and the like), well one of my friends streams/downloads music from his area of my site that he uploads from home. 1and1 has shutdown my site stating I have music on my server. Each time I explain the circumstances and back up the site goes. I'm sick of this!

    I have 5 mysql db's running and 8 domains.
    Here's my current package:
    200 GB web space
    2,000 e-mail accounts
    2,000 GB traffic
    3 included domains
    100 mysql db's
    ssl access
    multiple ftp accounts.

I know alot of you have great webhosts, please share! haha

What is your budget? Is it the same as you are currently paying 1 and 1?

How much disk space and bandwidth do you actually need per month?

I don't need a dedicated host, so no 50+ plans are needed haha.

The main thing is not getting my site shutdown every 2secs from automated/ Indonesia help desk for any mp3 on my site OR zip. I zip up pictures and they think it's a program wtf.

Anyways. That's my main concern followed with:
    Lots of MySQL DBs
at least 100gb space - I roadcourse/autox so I have LOTS of vids and pictures =)
no limit on attached domain names (again, I have 8 right now)
transfer? most i've been looking at are unlimited transfer anyways.

surf speedy is US based so I don't think they'll allow ANY mp3's even if they're just for stream purposes.

100 GB of space? then you need a dedicated server.

    Maybe try servage?

BTW, lots of shared hosts offer 100GBs of space. Not that uncommon now. Disk space is cheap and most people don't use anywhere near that much so the shared hosts can oversell the disk space.

I've been with 1&1 for years (2003) and haven't had any problems having that much space. Considering it's mostly wmv's and 2 dvd's that I have up at a time (2 seasons worth), the load isn't nearly enough for a dedicated server.

    Here's my current usage:
Disk Space 14862 MB of 100000.0 MB in use
Transfer Volume 100173 MB of 2000000.0 MB have been used
File Usage 21460 of 262144 files in use
    Basics
    E-mail 9 of 2000 mailboxes in use
Domain 3 of 3 included domains have been registered
    Tools and Features
WebsiteBuilder 0 of 5 projects in use
max. 18 pages for each project
DynamicSiteCreator 0 of 5 projects in use
max. 18 pages for each project
MySQL Databases 6 of 50 databases in use

I'm confused. You said you needed 100GBs of disk space but you are using less than 15GBs.

What is your real need for disk space and how much bandwidth do you use in a month?

I don't have my dvd's up right now. they are dual layer 15gb's each. I do a scopy of them from my buddy who makes them for me. I can show you last months records with 60gb on the site *shrug*. I want 100gb's because I use 50-75gb's space 3/4 of the year.

Okay. I'd still recommend you check out servage. They aren't US based so might not have a problem with your friend streaming illegal mp3s. I'm not sure about this though. Their plan is very cheap and because they are cluster based, they are likely able to tolerate having some customers actually use 100GBs of disk space (as the disk space isn't limited to a single server with 400 shared hosting accounts on it).

Dreamhost seems a lil sketchy in some areas. Any other recommendations for them? 1and1 must hate me, sites down again. I think right now it's the fact I told them to screw off because they're now blocking me for stuff not even in the agreement. Ex: Heroes (The new TV show) is 100% legal to have on your site since it's from directly off the air, well they're saying it's 'questionable material' and told me to remove it WTF

Are you distributing warez or something? You do know its illegal to share commercial video or audio footage.

BEFORE you go with servage, please read their TOS, and I'm sure you will change your mind after what you've read.

    It goes something like this...

Not many hosts offer SSH, even jailed as it can still be a security risk.

Try a budget plan from ResellerZoom. They are rolling out new budget plans which give you a much higher spec plan for only a few bucks extra.

They give you SSH (jailed) on request.

Allowing properly restricted SSH access is no more of a security risk than allowing any type of script execution.
