Looking for a replacement for Arielhost

I've been using Arielhost for a year or so now and loving it but they recently sold out to someone who cant seem even to keep the nameservers working right. So now I'm on a hunt for a comparable service.

    The things I'm looking for:
    1. Dedicated IP
    2. Unlimited (or very high number) add-on domains
    3. Unlimited (or very high number) emails per domain
    4. At least a gig of space
    5. A t least 10 gigs of bandwidth
    6. would like the host to be PCI compliant
    7. SSL availability for all the domains.

Now I'll probobly never use more than 4-5 domains or 2-3 emails per domain but the space is important, as is the SSL, nor do I care if its a shared server. For all this and more I was paying $16 a month to Ariel.

    Can anyone else come close?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Seems like you have a very good budget for your requirements. A couple of other questions, do you need any sort of scripting (php, asp, etc)? How about databases (MySQL, SQL Server, etc)?

Also, for any hosts you find...make sure to read reviews on them (there are plenty on WHT)...

Don't see a problem either, with your required features and budget but do wonder about the last two points.

    What is PCI compliant?

You should be using your own SSL for all kinds of reasons. Most important one is that your own Cert shows 'your' Domain name, not someone else's; like it would with a Shared Cert.

Essentially a set of standards which companies must adhere to to be considered 'trustworthy' to hold information on their own clients and other things.

I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject though!

Thanks for the info/links, David. Wasn't familiar with PCI term but from reading the info, it is something handled through the Merchant Gateway. Most Hosters would not want complete CC information on their own Servers as it's not really required -- if you let the Merchant Gateway handle it.

Have a look in the offers section. There seems to be a few offers meeting your requirements. Good luck with the search.

Generally compliance is handled by the merchant in some cases, yes.

Here's another article on it from WHIR:

    Mmm, information! Tastey.
I tend to avoid the stuff it gives me headaches.

In the US, I believe that you are required to be pci compliant if you accept credit cards. I remember American Express requesting that we confirm it.

You should have no problem finding a host to meet your requirements. Sorry to hear about Arielhost's issues.

Interesting. Sad to see that the people who bought this from me were incompetent!

We're not client of Ariel but if our host calls us 'incompetent' smack in the face that's one big reason to move to another host. When relations between hosts and clients start to break down the host should use tact and diplomacy first, fighting fire with fire doesnt do it especially in a public forum.

Responding in a rude manner only gives reason for potential clients to stay away. Not good for business.

Just my 2 cents. Peace man.

It's been five years since this thread started, perhaps things will change again. In a new thread.

If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.
