It seems shared libraries are not yet updated

    Can you try an ldconfig.

Most probably shared libraries like libpng.so are found in /usr/lib

    add /usr/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf

    Then run ldconfig -f /etc/ld.so.conf

How do I add it exactly?

Also I found libgd is in /usr/lib, but gd.h is in my php files in /install/php.5.2... in a few folders up its in /ext/gd or something.

Do I need to move it or is my problem the idconfig thing?

    thx

you need the devel tools as well as the core files. GD has nothing to do with png or XPM as far as php is concerned.
google is your friend. Use it and search the exact error you come up with, or, contact your systems admin, as this can be a pretty complicated problem to solve.

Just edit /etc/ld.so.conf and add the string '/usr/lib' into the file and save the file.

    then run ldconfig -f /etc/ld.so.conf
