htmlgoodies is the place where I first started with html, css, etc, and still go back to on occasion (typically when I need a color code). Great place to start out.

I have not looked at htmlgoodies in forever but not too long ago I would have told you to avoid it like the plague. However, the site is updated so I don't know about the content.
The best place I point people to nowadays is W3Schools.com. Please keep in mind that they have nothing to do with the W3C.IE7 is nine years behind the standards or wrong.
But it works in IE!

HTML tutorial might be a good start. When you find something that is confusing - ask specific questions about whatever it is and that is a good way to learn

the best for learning html with example is http://w3schools.com i started through this site and see where am i now u can see my site for reference which is completely made by html and css http://Smilemaker.co.nr
