Pay Per Advertising Post? Good Idea or No Way?
The thread title says it all. Would you be in support of Paid Advertising Posts? Thoughts/ideas on implementing it?

I think it would be a great idea. Ofcourse if the price was right. In a paid advertising section would all the posts be stickied? If so, how would ones ad stand out?

I think advertising should be paid yes. I also think they should maybe have a verified list of advertisers, getting proof that they are registered/paying taxes etc.
I think WHT should be a role model.. and so, the crap has to GO.It's Scott!

I also think they should expire in 1 week or something. Keep the clutter down and keep ads to a certain length.

There are plenty of decent ads in the ad forum, and it isn't too hard to find these ads (usually after one or two junk ads I find a decent ad with some good offers and a knowledgeable person posting). I think what would be most helpful is a seller/buyer reputation system, much like what ebay has.

The sticky posts would most likely devalue, but the quality of the posts in the advertisement forums would most likely gain value.
This could be another excellent income source for iNet, on top of keeping the forum cleanerTom Whiting, WHMCS Guru extraordinaire

I think that, while this could help eradicate some of the trash in the ad forums, we will just have to continue clicking around it and relying on the mods to remove the worst of it.

Perhaps a bold and unbold ad.
Each ad would be stickied, but bold ads would cost extra?<<< Please see Forum Guidelines for signature setup. >>>

01-01-2007, 02:53 PM #14WHT would loose a lot of advertisers that are illegitimate, offer good products or services, but can't see the value in spending, say, $5 for an ad that will quickly disappear from view under new ads.
In the case of the domain forum, this fee can be highly justified. Most threads aren't selling just ONE name, bu multiple names. Very easily justified there.Tom Whiting, WHMCS Guru extraordinaire

I like the idea, I've used the Sitepoint ad forums a few times. I think it was $20, but you could also pay a bit more for things like the thread being highlighted a bit more, and also listed on the front page or similar.
Would certainly cut out a good chunk of rubbish.Steve

Everybody is complaining about the marketplace, but I like it the way it is now.
If paid ads are introduced, I'm not sure how many companies will carry on doing their "WHT specials".

Its a stupid idea
The whole thing would backfire and give you a kick up the *beep*
It always has been free and thats a primary reason WHT is used because its free to advertise your buisness once every 7 days
And thats the way it should stay. I just think some of the older ads need clearing away now
In the premium members forum they could have there own advertising that only the premium members could see
But keep the normal advertising threads as is so people can advertise there buisnesses and i certainly would not pay even $10 or more to place an advert thats going to dissapear to the second page hours later. Advertising on this forum has been free and should be kept free, its what makes WHT unique
Its good and effective as it is
Also dont Inet make enough from all these banner ads on every page.
Its a stupid idea thats been talked about before and was never put into place, it would destroy Webhostingtalk and its good name to another money grabbing forum

WHT should be happy to make money off the Banners and Sticky.
You might end up killing the Advertising Forums as it will be the same people over and over and less reason to go look at the section to see what is new. The little guys will loose :-(Last edited by music; 01-01-2007 at 04:40 PM.

WHT is full of all kinds of individuals. Charging $25 for an advertisement thread is nothing, yet it will eliminate most of the junk and freeloading advertisements, those that don't want to contribute to the community.Tom Whiting, WHMCS Guru extraordinaire
