Running the "./configure" command for PHP...

Where do I run this command? I want to reconfigure my PHP, but I can't figure out what directory I need to be in to do it.. every where I've tried, it just says no such file. I'm sorry for being such a newb, I've connected to my dedicated server using SSH and I've tried browsing through more directories than my mind can all map out, and I still can't find where to do it.

Got it working.. I learned how to do the wget to get the file, then found a thread on DreamHost's wiki that was a script to install PHP 5, came in really handy to find the wget commands to get a lot of the outdated/missing packages I needed. Thanks for the help, Jeremy! I definitely have learned a lot this past weekend with all the wget's, ./configure's, make's, make install's, etc.
