So I just picked up a S939 motherboard and athlon64 3700 but it seems the CPU revision is too new for the motherboard and just halts the system right when it turns on. It looks like there are BIOS updates on the manufacturer site but at this point I can't boot to anything let alone enter the BIOS. Any possible ideas short of buying an older CPU just to flash it?
That is unfortunate Short of RMAing the motherboard and hoping to get one back with a newer BIOS revision, you'll have to use an older CPU. Rather than buying one, I've known people who have been able to go to their local computer parts/repair store and have them pop in an older CPU temporarily to flash the BIOS. If that is an option it would be less expensive then buying another CPU and probably faster too.
