It may be worth you getting a tracert off a few people with slow speeds to see what route traffic is taking.

Present it to your VPS provider and ask if they can do anything about it.... you never know.

my domain is misterupload.com but is currently in a dns update.

So you download with 478kb/s ?? That is really a big difference with the other people who tested the file. How is that possible?

A trace shows you the route traffic is taking. For example the one i have just done tells me that traffic is taking a slow route at hop 5. This is between my dsl and a server hosting b-h-p.com

    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Matthew Park>tracert www.b-h-p.com

    Tracing route to www.b-h-p.com [195.188.251.18]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

This guy in DC downloaded really slow too, but I ran it again and still got 471 KB/S. I downloaded the file from the office on some very serious pipes, and it may take me longer to download from home on a Comcast 6MB/300KB. It looks like 20 hops to DE, with a stable 135 ms (no dropped packets), to your domain. Is this file being downloaded from the same server that your domain is on?

You could set up a mirrored site in the US.

1.5 MB/Sec from DC in Amsterdam.

I got around 500k on my home ADSL connection in England.

Remember speeds can vary depending on the time of day, and the ISP you use.
