Scripted cPanel MySQL backup doesn't work

Does anyone know why a command like: wget http://user:[email protected]:2082/getsqlbackup/<dbname>.gz
downloads only a 20 byte empty .gz file instead of a valid MySQL backup? The equivalent command to download the home page backup works fine. We have double-checked that the username, password and database name are correct, and the URL matches what is shown in the browser status bar when you point at the link in cPanel. Downloading the database manually from the browser works fine. The hosting company can't think of anything, and the cPanel support forum hasn't come up with anything either.

Actually haven't seen that before and I was not able to duplicate your problem. What version of cPanel and MySQL are you running?

Neither am I. I am getting this second hand, and I didn't think to ask that information, but the person I was trying to assist says that the same thing happens using two different web hosts, one of which appears to be webhostingsolutions.com.au.
