I give up. I'm disgusted with Purehost.com. I found a reseller I thought would be the answer. I moved a bunch over to Hivelocity.net. Now they are crashing left and right on me. My customers are screaming. They havent' been able to get emails for 2 days on time. The hivelocity.net site itself crashed today.
Anyway I've been searching here and elsewhere for solid recommendations for a reseller to use and all I find are horror stories. I am a web designer that has a reseller account just to service my clients. I have about a dozen websites. I would like to grow larger, but I'm dying with bad support and reliability.
Anyone wish to enlighten me with a solid hosting company?
I'm paying $100/mo now (2 yr contract ugh) for 30GB traffic 1000MB storage.
Unlimited email accounts - they just can't use it!
Please don't reply if you don't have a few years of reliable experience with a provider. I'm desperate for dependable information.
I have used Miva Merchant, I want to expand online sales sites. I'm also getting into secure sites that use php. My main development tool is Netobjects Fusion.
It has interfaces to a lot of objects........
MY MAIN CRITERIA - Reliable uptime, reliable email.
(I used to work for IBM on a contract with the FAA on air traffic control. Our design guidelines for uptime were 99.999999999% - that was 3 seconds downtime a year! Sorry I dont have billions to spend.)
It doesnt have to be Miva Merchant - another online sales method is ok if it works well.
I'm trying to avoid buying in the blind. I was hoping to get recommendations based on real experiences, hopefully a couple of years worth at a reseller.
All my research has yielded nightmare stories or glowing recommendations from novice users (not claiming to be a super hotshot myself here).
(As for the FAA contract - that was the design point. Systems had to be designed to be swapped out in real time. Subsystems had higher requirements so that the cumulative total was still 9 9's. The software was designed and written in Ada but that was awhile ago now..)
been there, done that. I went through whreviews.com and hostgator sounded good, then I found horror stories about them too....
Being a big company like HostGator....Brent can't please everyone. You should look at all the good reviews they have....Keep in mind that unhappy customers are more likely to post than happy ones....and they still have tons of good reviews.
Thanks Ireland - hey I'm half-Irish - So I guess I'm half convinced.
I did stumble into netcraft dot com which has actual uptime metrics.. interesting stuff. It also talks about Grid Hosting - now that sounds promising.. it mentions GridServer from MediaTemple - anyone using them? It sounds like a new paradigm that I am looking for...... thanks all...
Perhaps you should go give RSHosting.com a try - they are very reliable and have true 24/7 support

The problem with pre-sales questions is that every host promises you the world and it is not until you have problems that you find out the truth about your host.
Well thats a good point you make BUT often times people will sign up somewhere without doing any research at all on said provider. Sending pre-sales ? is just another option you NEED to do when selecting a host (surely not the only one) BUT still important just the same. Search here, run the co. name through google.com, etc.
jg123 - I agree. I was hoping to get some real world experiences that were good. I have gotten some suggestions/recommendations which I appreciate.
I've been trying to find a reliable reseller host for my own developed websites and had no luck really in 5 years....
I started with Dellhost, that became Appsitehosting, then PUREHOST which is Pure%@$.
I ventured out to Hivelocity.net with their reseller program (which they dont seem to offer now) and have had huge problems lately. I can't keep doing this
Every company has its horror stories the ones that are established more than 2+ years are usually the ones that will care for their customers through the thick and the thin.
The worst case scenario are companies just leaving clients in the dark with no contact etc...These tends to be companies that are eliminated within the first year or so
