I am looking for suggestions from people that definitely know more than I do.
I currently host a couple sites for myself and for some friends. current needs are about 5-10GB disk space with at least 100GB Bandwidth. I am also looking into messing around with running a lisp based server or at least using mod_lisp on apache so I can serve some pages using lisp. I would also like Python support. I could probably get this all running myself (I say probably, because I know how it is done, but have never done it myself), but would prefer to have some of it managed and already provided if possible. I would prefer to spend around $20-$30 a month but will look into more expensive alternatives(up to $70-$80) if suggested with good reason.
I have looked at those suggested by the ALU and by Bill Clementson. they are on my list, but I thought I would see what everyone here would have to say on the subject. obviously the ALU and Bill are Lisp centric when thinking about their webhosting, but I would like to know what people who really think about webhosting think of webhosters and plans that may offer these services or offer enough access to install these services.
If you are happy with using lisp as CGI, then you have a lot more choices.
I use Ocaml as CGI and my host has Ocaml already on the system,
so I didn't have to install it on my own directory.
But even without it, I can put all necessary files in my directory and run Ocaml as interpreter, or compile down and use it as fast and small Binary CGIs.
(It can be a bit painful if the language you want to use prefers to be in certain directories, though ....)
If you insist on mod_lisp, then the choice is very limited, IMO.
Speciality hosting or VPS/dedicated, or some shell accounts that allow you to run servers.
Also, it depends on the usage.
Limited number of visitors or full public high volume site.
