help with name server
ok right now i have my own domain name that i own and have owened for over a year.
with my current domain registra i have my domain pointing to my shared server [ns1.hostingcompany.com and ns1.hostingcompany.com]
now i just purchased a VPS and when i go to change the domain to the new namer server, which is an IP address, i am told i am using an invalid format.
You should login to your domain control panel and register your own nameservers:
ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com, most of the domain registrar allows it and register them on the ip of your vps.
Once they are registerd you can use them as your nameservers for your domains
you can ask your webhosting server provider to provide you the private name servers with shared IP this will solve your issue
You should do 2 steps:
1. Create nameserver pointing to the nameserver ip of your VPS
2. Update your domain to use with the new nameserver.
