    Ad forums / Post count

Quick question about the Advertising forums and post count. . .

Anyone know why we should count posts made in the Advertising Forums?
There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

I don't see a reason. If they're posting an offer, that's already a benefit (most of them have) earned. If they are responding with "nice offer", no point.

Is there a good enough reason to remove it, though? I mean, is it being abused too much?

    Nope, no reason.

Yep, abused like crazy, and a lot of it goes undetected

I don't see any valid reason to count posts there, I just assumed it was never counted in the first place.

Just curious, when you stop counting posts from a particular forum, are members who posted prior to the change affected? I guess what I'm wondering is if post count is just a number that's incremented when you post or if it's dynamic and will update when posts are deleted/not counted anymore.

They have to run a vBulletin maintenance counter that will update the users post count based on the number of posts they have in forums where posts count. So yes, it is dynamic.

I agree, there is no point. Far too often I see, "nice template!" or "pm sent!" posts made.

Some users use this to help them get a higher post count.

may be just posts should be counted but not responses.

Eh, then there would be more vBulletin hacking going on and less time improving current features and working on WHT 3.6 . I bet most people who create threads in the ad forums won't loose more than 100 posts, and for most people who create threads in the ad forums that won't matter.

Yes! My goal is to reach 1000 posts by the end of the year and removing my post count for those forums would drastically reduce my post count

My vote goes to not removing them at all

I mean look at you SWR...you're nearing 25,000...you wouldn't want to ruin that milestone for yourself would you .

I do my part by reporting any fluffiness I see from < 10 posters.

For every one that gets caught, another five don't.

Here's a question - let's say we adjust everyone's post counts to not reflect advertising forums. If this brings someone's total to less than 10, is their advertising forums promotion still in effect, or does it get reverted to they are unable to post ads? If it's still in effect, I support this measure. If it gets reverted, I really support this measure!

Last I knew, vB only did promotions. Demotions have to be done manually. So, they'd keep what they have.

I would add to this discussion the discussion that took place on this subject last year too - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=422170

But I'd only add it because I personally like the poll results

I think post in the advertising forum should be left as is and maybe just increase the minimum number of post counts required to post adverts. The minimum should be something like 100.

Is it possible to simply stop awarding any post counts in the future without having to eliminate those counted in the past? Sort of a grandfather clause that if you already have them, they stay, but any future post will not be counted?

If so - pull the switch and make it happen.

This would help in Nick's situation as well as many others.
