Guys I have no clue on what to do, maybe you can help me out. I'm running a CentOS 64 box with cPanel. I recently enabled phpsuexec as a security measure only to find out that open_basedir protection was not working.
After some tests with the kind people of PlatynumServerMagement, it seems that phpsuexec is not compatible with the per virtualhost openbasedir settings. And of course, only reason to have open_basedir restriction enabled if I allow each account to open and access their own accounts.
Apache's phpsuexec run PHP script as CGI with suEXEC, which is low performance and php configurations set in Apache's httpd.conf, like open_basedir, does not work.

That's right, so people like me, worried about security on a shared hosting environment should choose whether to choose phpsuExec or open_basedir. Not worried about performance since with fastCGI and eAccelerator, the drawback is unnoticeable.
