FTP v.s. SFTP speed
I regularly upload ~1 GB files to a server. Obviously this takes a long time.
The server does not have ftpd installed, so I have to use SFTP (over SSH).
Would I be able to upload appreciably faster if I used plain old unencrypted FTP instead?
Sure, FPT is faster than SFTP
Unfortunately, SFTP is noticeably slower than FTP.
You may want to see if you can instead use SCP or rsync; both are much faster than SFTP and just as secure.
