Need an appraisal on controversial domain
Hi I run a hosting business where I purchase domains for people who are afraid to do so for themselves for what ever reason, whether its porn or political domains, well someone had me purchase
www.Anti-Semitism.Net
for them and they never renewed the domain payment with me, abandoning the domain, so I just kept it, now some guy from norway wants to offer me $1000 bucks for it, but wont buy it unless I can get a solid appraisal company to say its worth $1000 bucks.
He wants to buy it so it doesnt end up in racist hands, and I can understand his concerns, as it was once owned by a racest person who used it to put illegal political articles on it. So he is hoping to buy it and possibly sell it 5 years down the road, once things really heat up in the middle east.
does anyone have any suggestions? any help? how much is this domain worth in actuality? its a dictionary word, but its only .NET so how much does that take away from it?
I want to get rid of it, I have way too many domains and its time to lighten the load, i want to make sure it gets into good hands and not in the hands of evil doers who might use it for posting bad political ideas.
Much appreciated all your help. Please PM me or respond to this post.

I personally do not see that domain being worth so much money.. to me it seems more likely for you to get registraition fees than any profit, as it does not seem like a very marketable website.

Even as a dictionary word? and a word that comes up with 2.5 million search results? Anti-Semitism is a word that comes up almost daily in the news and with the conflict in the middle east it is an issue that is mentioned everyday.
Can anyone recommend a good appraisal service? I got an offer for $1000 if I can get an appraisal to back it up.

But what could the website hosted at anti-semitism be about, and how would it make any revenue?

It could be a world news site for Jews or an organization that fights Anti-Semitism world wide because of the .Net
Its one of the most common dictionary terms spoken, its got to be worth something.
Again can anyone recommend a good appraiser?

I don't think the number of search results returned for the word is what really matters... I have a domain that returns 40+million hits but since it's not a commonly searched word... I'm out of luck.
It's interesting that the hyphen is typically a negative thing in a domain but the hyphen here is actually the correct way to spell the word...
I don't understand... someone offered you $1000 but wants YOU to prove it's worth that? If I were the buyer... I'd be the one proving it...
Personally, I'm not sure I'd want to sell the domain... you never know what the person has planned for it... I might let it expire and wash my hands of it...

I'm definitely not letting a domain name that is a dictionary word expire, I will pay the $8 a year if that is what I have to do, and No way in heck im letting a domain name expire after someone offers me $1000 for it.

And how do you know he's being genuine? If we was being genuine... why would he want to sell it in 5 years once things "heat up"?
Sorry dude, just my opinion.

As he's made an offer contingent on YOU getting it appraised I'd consider the following:
"There is a somewhat widespread scam currently going around in which a domain registrant receives a random purchase inquiry. When the domain registrant responds to the inquiry, the putative purchaser states that they will pay the amount provided by an objective appraisal, and the "purchaser" states that they only trust any of three or four services. One of those services, coincidentally, is priced well below the other ones. So, the domain registrant obtains the appraisal, sends it to the "purchaser", and the "purchaser" is never heard from again. The point of the scam is to induce domain registrants into buying useless appraisals."

Very interesting....
I registered what I thought was a saleable domain name (ClearNFree.com) a while back. Yesterday, I recieved an e-mail from a gent that stated he was interested in my domain. He said he wasn't in the domain name business, but wanted to make money reselling domains to fund the startup of an anti-racist portal...
I checked out the domain his e-mail originated at... Bergen, Norway.
The rest of the story pretty much fits the article NyteOwl cited.
I've countered the gentleman's insistence of an appraisal with a dramatic devaluation of the domain.
This could get interesting.

devhostweb,
I got an e-mail a while back from M*** Hansen from Opera Software etc. (domain was operaen.com) who offered me 7000$ for 2 or 3 domains.
The whole point is whoever sends the e-mail wants you to buy the apparaisal from the company they recommend (which is either himself or a friend) and after this you wont hear again from him.
Dont be fooled by this.
If you can use the domain thats the best thing to do, otherwise you will probably have to wait for a serious buyer to come up to you again.
