what does YOUR website do?
Just wondering what kind of websites or applications you guys run.
Especially those that require entire servers or arrays of servers to run. I guess to that most of you will say either forums or web hosting, but let me know either way
I don't know if it's against any terms, but if it isn't, what are some of the bigger websites your clients run as well?
I'll start.
I run a small blog and web development testing stuff like Ruby apps that I'm learning. I usually don't go over 500mb/month bandwidth

For my personal stuff, I use a small blog, it used to have a forum, but too many spammers found there way there. So now it's just a basic blog, not using many resources, not getting too many hits.

Sweet. I should add (can't find any edit button) that I'm not looking for names or anything, just the function of these websites.

Probably the closest thing to usefulness that my website does is that it enables me to share pictures with the Mountain West Club, Idaho River Sports Club, or anyone else who's interested. It's just to show off the pictures, and it saves me the trouble of chasing after people with prints or CD's to do it. It's not an automated process, so there is some manual tinkering to put low resolution pictures on the page with hyperlink to higher resolution versions.

Forums and game servers for now ;-)
I "misuse" the forum to take my personal memos about technical issues or anything I am interested in. I havent found anything yet that would allow me to do this. What I have in mind would be a mixture of groupware with a big section for postit stickies.
A blog is not really what I would want to run.__--- Nils Valentin ---

I have many websites, dealing with many different things (no time to list them all).
Currently I have 3 servers, I am looking into getting a third one.
That is on my personal websites.

I have several websites all of them fishing related. (Fishing, not phishing ) My main site provides fishing and outdoors related information for Clear Lake and the rest of Lake County California.
I do simple web design work locally and provide hosting for my design clients via a reseller account.

I have a simple 5 page website that sells hosting. It still amazes me that such a simple thing has afforded me so much in life.
God bless the internet.

Mine sits on the net and looks stupid with it's thumb up it.... erm, nevermind.
What do we use the majority of our servers for? We host the backup 911 system for the county, we host several emergency services, and provide fiber all over the area to hospitals and corporate businesses. Plus we run numorous on site exchange servers at most of them. Then in our data center we provide email systems to those who arent on any exchange, and dedicated servers.
Some of our servers are for general hosting, thats whats in my sig. Our other servers make up a hosting system which is fully managed and guarantees total 100% uptime, ie: network, servers, fiber, etc. Of course there is no such thing since we cant control all of it (ie: local loops) but we back it up financially.
Then, anything they need done that can be done via phone or on location that is outside the services we have setup or provided, we charge hourly rates. IE - computer repair, etc. Plus we build workstations, servers, and networks for them.
Lots and lots and lots of hardware.

I am a blogger. Aside from my customer sites I have a site written in PHP that tracks referrers. members place a bit of code on their site and it shows the referrers that have hit their site, and lnks back to them. it also displays how many times each referrer has been hit and shows that (if enebaled) to the right. Highly filtered and stored in MySQL.
I knew it'd be a good idea especially since bloggers rely on links to grow traffic. So it's starting to be fun.
The code was a bit loose. when the activity picked up it started to show in the speed. So there is a complete re-write in process that will greatly improve the way it works, it's speed and a HUGE difference in custom reports people can use for their sites.
The problem is the site that's there right now is ghastly ugly. But the traffic is beginning to grow. Right now it's gettign about 21 to 22 million page views per month so I'm happy with it.Show your reciprocal links on your website. eReferrer

I create simple sites with a friend for missionaries and offer free and discounted hosting for churches and other ministries of like-faith and practice. It's not a business or organization- just something I do on the side with my free time.
I do most of the logistics, support, photoshopping and page design (html and css) and my friend makes php scripts for things like photo galleries and uploads, a simple cms for articles and updates, and other custom stuff. We are working on a custom CMS for missionaries since their requirements for site are pretty much all the same.
The money he makes off a side hosting business he donates most of it to the cause, which gives back by means of building up his experience and his portfolio- and I think he gets some satisfaction knowing he's being a help to others.
