They don't make money (most of them) and they do, it would probably be a few cents. They just oversell their space and bandwidth ie offering more than they can 'actually' provide.

EPLTUnlimited, I would not recommend going this route. I can't remember who, but a WHT member actually tried one of those services a while ago, to see just what would happen. He or she posted here about it to keep everyone updated. I can't remember exactly what happened, but I don't believe it turned out too well. I've known others who have gone this route as well, and they experience the same trouble. So...I would avoid these 'eBay hosts' at all costs.

I agree with the others, I wouldn't suggest going with an ebay advertised web hosting provider. You may not like the outcome and be back here on WHT in a fews weeks requesting hosting. However, if you do end up getting service through an ebay provider, let us know how it goes!

What get on ebay? You don't want to advertise on ebay....IMHO that is not a very good ad campaign.

No, HostFrog, I don't think the OP wishes to advertise on eBay. He's just wondering how they get away with doing that.

ahhh. I see. In that case, not sure how they get away with it. I know they pay ebay to get those listings so you actually think ebay will take it down...nope.

I would have to say I get a good laugh when Im surfing ebay and come across the auctions for web hosting offers that offering more space and bandwidth than any person could use in a lifetime.

Though it makes me wonder if the $.26 you pay to run an auction is a good price to pay for advertising on ebay, hmm lol

I remember that the owner of an "unlimited ebay host" admitted that they (meaning he) had in fact had an unstated policy of requiring all customers to upgrade once they used 10GB of data transfer /month. I guess this can be a solution to make it work.

    hi,
i was just searching for a reseller plan and found a site with terms/AUP stating
    "Server Resources
Per site do not exceed more than 1 Gb bandwidth per Month. "
    see it on siliconhouse.net/company/terms.html

What kinda service or limitation is this ? how would i run my sites if their overselling is now stopping you with this kinda stuff.

1gb will be "ok" for a normal site.. but its not safe to run with that kind of limitation. Im sure they will prob charge you if you go over that (ebay style)

Generally ebay means oversold and poor service. However there can be exceptions.

My advice is if you want to go down that route, find out all you can about the host before buying.

Well as I do agree with you MK to a point, you don't have to search on ebay to find hosts that do not provider quality and oversell their service. More and more hosting providers are getting into the swing of this everyday. I do have to say I would stay clear of any web hosting provider attempting to "advertise" their service by making bid auctions on ebay, bad marketing with no sense.

Their accounts are horrible! I tried it just for the sake of it myself. I wanted to see how it would go. The host I had was fine till one of the payments got messed up and i endup oweing way more. I was just trying it just to see i'm not dumb enough to believe those ads. I quickly learned from that experience

I have always been weary of those stupid ebay accounts. The amounts of diskspace and bandwidth that some of them offer is just rediculous.

Sometimes I've wondered if people even get their accounts or just throw there money into the air.
