I currently have a server with the following specs:
2 x Dual core opteron 270
6 GB of ram
73 x 2 SCSI 15K Drives
I want to replace the drives with larger ones, so I'll have to take the server offline for a bit. Another option I have instead, is just moving to a new server, and then I could even get a faster CPU: for $50 extra a month, I could either upgrade to Woodcrest 5130 or Opteron 2212.
What do you think? should I proceed with the upgrade, or is the performance upgrade not that big, so it doesn't worth it and I should just upgrade in like half a year to a Quad Core cpu?
Oh, and I forgot to mention: the host said they would place the new drives in the server and allow me to transfer the files over from the old drives before they remove them.
So our option is the stick with what we've got and go with the drive upgrade or get a new server with a better CPU and these drives we want. Plus I also have the option of $40 more, so a total of $90 over what I'm paying, going to the 5140, or another $40 up to the 5160.
