    vB - Problems With Spam

Hey guys, I have been getting a lot of new users on my vB that are spammers. Right now, all new users are moderatoed but that is a hassle.

I want to open up a new thread that is an Introduction thread, and make the other threads inaccessible unless the user has a post count of 3, how do I put a minimum post count on a forum so a user cant post in that certain forum unless they have x amount of posts?

why don't you go to vbulletin.org to as for help? I think you will get a better response and I think there is a mod there which you are looking for.

use groups and promotions for this.

create a custom group that isn't allowed to do what you want to restrict. There are all sorts of restrictions you can use. Or edit the default group (i highly suggest you just make a new group). make that group the default that new users are assigned

Now, go to promotions. make an automatic promotion for users that get X number of posts, to put them in the standard 'registered' group which has access to all the default stuff.

I think you have to create a cron job to run the automatic promotions but it might just be an automatic setting in vB and it creates the cron. Whatever the case that's it. you're done.

Have you considered installing a mod_security ruleset that will kill all requests that include specific strings? I believe gotroot.com has a few large sets that should prevent most spam.

    What version are you running?

This stops the bots who spam very nicely. Since I installed it on one of the forums I admin, the spam has been dramatically reduced

Curse that silly mod...it's on FU and FWS. It's irritating.

Dennis, you should consider changing the abbreviation for Forum University. FU sounds kinda mean

Great hack. Combined with this one, we've currently stopped them cold on my boards.
