I'm planning to launch an informational business website next month. I would like to have a very reliable host. I'd also prefer Linux. The website will be no larger than 4 MB, and I don't think I'll ever use more than 3 GB of bandwidth. The site will have only HTML and PDF; it won't even have any graphics. Given my limited requirements, I thought that one of the low-cost plans might be fine. I'm considering:
I would just strongly recommend emailing those potential hosts with any questions you may have. You can also use the search tool here in the forum and see what feedback results. Another good thing to do is run the co. name through google.com
It sounds like you are planning ahead (good for you!) Choices are over-whelming now and theres really just too many to pick from.
Out of the hosts you listed, ASmallOrange and HostPC are the only two that I have heard of (although it most definitely doesn't mean they are the only two you should look into!). I remember that at one point, ASmallOrange was doing really good, but then they had a period where their service was less than perfect, but I do not know their current state and I have never been a customer of theirs, so you may want to do some research yourself.
You seem to be off to a good start and you are looking at appropriate hosts for what you need. Good luck in finding that right host!
I would go with asmallorange without a doubt. I am currently hosted with them and i have absolutely never had problems with them. If there is a problem with will go to the end of the earth to resolved. Today i had a problem with LAME and they went all the way fixing it. I have never seen a bad review of them ever!!!
i have been using precisioneffect.com for quite some time now, with multiple sites. you wouldn't believe the product, service, and support you can get for the price. i haven't experienced any downtime yet, and every question answered in a timely and respectful fashion.
I would not pay for 1 year payment... also I would stay on month to month until you are comfortable.
