Unless you start seeing load of 10 or 50 i doubt you need to switch , load of 1 is ok, even my dual xeon server stays at 0.20-0.60 most of the time.
12+ years -same website , new server [SSD Inside] providing shared/reseller hosting only !
These things we do not provide/offer : Unlimited Storage ! Unlimited Bandwidth ! But Why? Cause, we were unable to put such a large number on our pages, it just would not fit.
So check out the numbers that actually fit >> << the page as well as your budget too !

load is entirely subjective, it just means you have alot of things running.
If you have very high cpu %, i/o wait%, etc that would indicate a problem
otherwise since it's a file download site I'll assume you have alot of processes running / waiting with relatively moderate CPU and i/o

I'm guessing that you haven't optimized Apache yet (Which will bring down the load a lot). Plus a load of 1 should be no problem at all. in fact, up to a load of 2-3 you should not even notice any speed drop.

Your server appears to be just fine..
You cant find httpd.conf in WHM
For cpanel its located at: /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf
Either way, you not knowing where it is shows that you haven't optimized, thus I would reccomend reading up on it... or the safest route would be to hire management.. a good one I would reccomend is

Yeah, I agree with Tina.
Since you have management, just try asking them to secure and optimize your box.

To access SSH, you can use a command prompt, or an FTP-like client...
The command prompt:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s.../download.html
FTP-like client (SFTP, SCP):
http://winscp.net/eng/download.php#download2
Just download one, fill out the server details, and your in.
Putty (Command Prompt) doesn't require installation.
Either way there is a lot to learn still..
Depending on you OS, I or someone else may be able to refer you to a tutorial or something.

yes, if you have a server management team, I wouldn't touch anything like http.conf, etc. It is their job, especially if you are not sure about what to do and mostly because you are paying them. If you do changes yourself and something goes wrong, you cannot even blame them cause you might have caused it.
However, server load of 1.00 really is nothing to worry about...█ MIDIAWORKS.NET - Web Hosting Services from Brazil

Adley,
Drop the Servstra people a ticket and ask them to please optimize your Apache for you, and explain to them the trouble you're having. They will fix you up.

Getting a new server, or upgrading your current isn't going to fix the problem, especially when it doesn't appear that you have outgrown your current.
You need to have a server administrator look at it, explain the problem to them.
No point in throwing money away, when it is probably a fixable problem.
Just a hunch, ask servstra about your apache maxclients setting, it may be too low.Last edited by No1Resource; 11-27-2006 at 11:29 PM.

Since these members are telling you to ask the server management to take a look and optimize. It is possible to low CPU load if do optimize. 1.00 load is fine. Just ask them what you need to fix and you will learn.
