All of those listed are Solaris machines.

thought so... most of my RHEL box need reboot after kernel upgrade so I have 200-300 days uptime. However my BSD box has my own 700+ days uptime. It was taken down because of h/w upgrade issue. I'm dam impressed with FreeBSD. The box was P4 with 1 GiG, it was taking more load than standard RHEL box. Indeed, Pretty impressive

Yeah, the boxes with the highest uptime that I use are all BSD. Interestingly enough, the second highest is a RH9 box .

Aye, the Solaris machines I was doing admin on a few years back were averaging at around 500-600 days.

Then of course it came time to move them to another rack on the opposite side of the room so we could do infrastructure upgrades

How about the number of CPU seconds used compared to the servers uptime anybody? That'll separate the small folks from the big boys (e.g. a 1:1 ratio is maxed out 24/7, whereas from 100:1 to 1000:1 are more common going from high to mid load).

And I agree our pre RHEL / centOS servers are the toughest ones (all the above are pre RHEL), able to handle large load spikes, etc... without locking up and requiring a hard reboot. Most of the servers above average 200-400 GB per month.

Reviving an old thread since I never saw the original questions about the format.

The reason it says "day(s)" is because that's how Solaris does it. Have a look at the solaris uptime man page.
