    550 / mail problem

    I did a direct telnet to the smtp port on with the commands

    MAIL FROM: [email protected]
    RCPT TO: [email protected]

    results in:
    SMTP Exim 4.52 #1 Wed, 22 Nov 2006 23:04:19 -0600
    220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
    220 and/or bulk e-mail.
    250 Hello []
    MAIL FROM: <[email protected]>
    250 OK
    RCPT TO: <[email protected]>
    550-Verification failed for <[email protected]>
    550-Unrouteable address
    550 Sender verify failed
    221 closing connection

    I had already done eximup --force, mailperm and confirmed both domains (both hosted on my box) are showing up in localdomains and not in remotedomains inside /etc directory.

    So sending local to local is giving that error.

    These are checked in exim config

    Verify the existence of email senders.
    Use callouts to verify the existence of email senders.
    Discard email for users who have exceeded their quota rather than keeping it in the queue.

    my first box in exim config shows this:

    untrusted_set_sender = *
    local_from_check = false
    #local_sender_retain = true

    timeout_frozen_after = 2d
    ignore_bounce_errors_after = 12h

    domainlist rbl_blacklist = lsearch;/etc/rblblacklist
    domainlist rbl_bypass = lsearch;/etc/rblbypass
    hostlist rbl_whitelist = lsearch;/etc/relayhosts : partial-lsearch;/etc/rblwhitelist
    message_size_limit = 20M
    #log_selector = +arguments +subject
    log_selector = +all

    550 is authentication issues. Does your server have a config to authorize the user first?
