Thread: Which server

    Which server

I'm looking to run windows 2K3 server on a single box to host a number of small websites. I have two dedicated servers in mind :

2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor
    1 GB RAM
    120 GB IDE
    £79 + VAT / Month

    OR

    AMD Athlon 64 3,000+
    1GB DDR RAM
    2x80 GB hard drive (RAID1)
    £69 + VAT / month

I guess the bottom line is the processors on these two but I've seriously lost touch with the hardware market place so I have no idea which is best.

    Secondly
Neither of these come with a good mail setup so any other comparable services with something like mail enable and spam assassin preinstalled + webmail would be useful.

AMD is alot faster, if their raited the same speeds amd still usually has a gain

2.8 is comparable to a AMD 2800, that amd is raited to be as good or better then a P3 3.0GHZ as amd's run slower clockspeeds

Go AMD. Faster processor and 2 vs 1 drives. Having redundancy and faster speed... no brainer.

That's conclusion enough for me I think.

What about some alternatives. I just had to uninstall all the mail server that one of my dedicates shipped with and install spam assassin and an attachment filter. Is there a server that comes with this preinstalled to save me some headaches?
Ideally IMAP compatible too with webmail.
