    RapidSSL (have been fooled?)

    Hello Everyone,
Few days ago I have opened a thread looking for a certificate meeting some specs: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=560270
Some people replied me including Pat H who mentioned 256 bit encryption!
I bought and installed this certificate and here is the outcome:

When I https to the site it gives me an alert: 'The security certificate was issued by a company you have chosen not to trust..."
It is also an 128 bit encryption!!!
    What went wrong?

(I opened this thread because nobody answered my last questions in the old one)
    Regards,
    Rocco.

You're using a self signed certificate (not the RapidSSL one).

Make sure you follow the instructions again and it should work, are you using a control panel of any kind?

    I am using CPanel.
Where is the link to RapidSSL you've mentioned??
In http://www.namecheap.com/learn/other...rtificates.asp there was only one RapidSSL!!!
    Thats what I've bought.

Well, it seems that you have it working now... and if you look at the encryption details it will say AES-256 bits.

OK sorry it is a 256bits indeed!
What should I do now, buy a new one or make some modifications through WHM?
If I buy a new one how will I determine a trusted company as an issuer of the cert?
    Any advise?

    Regards,
    Rocco.

You are still using a self signed cert. You are not using the rapidssl cert.

    Reinstall the Rapidssl cert again.

Also note that the strength of the encryption (128bit / 256bit etc) has nothing to do with the certificate. It depends on the implemenation of SSL of the webserver.

most cetificates can be used for 1024bit or higher encryption if the webserver and browser supported it...

Could you please be more specific about the procedure that I should follow?
I don't have to buy a new one right?

I think you are mistaken certificate signing key with encryption key. Certificates themselves are public/private keys in the range of 1024k-4096k bits. However the actual encryption itself is done in RC4, AES, etc block ciphers between 128k and 256k (or 56k if you are using an old international version of IE5/IE6).

I installed it fine, after the email from namecheap arrived with a delay of 8 days!
However, when I browse the page with IE 7 it is waiting for 1 item to load and its not displaying the padlock.
    Any opinions?
    Rocco.
