    London Servers ?

    Hi,

This is what we are looking for, if any of you could reccomend someone, it would be greatly appreciated.

A Uk Datacenter (Prefferably Redbus, London)
Ability to lease (Rent) servers direct from datacenter or Company with space there.
Ability to Colocate servers there and maybe buy direct from them.
    Ability to "re-sell" servers.

Thats pretty much it, we are looking to start offering Uk services, but we want to find a good dc/company.

    Thanks for your time.

With regards to Redbus, it's not a good place to be unless you intend to go bankrupt, the prices just don't stop rising...

By re-sell the servers, do you mean resell the hardware, or rent dedicated machines and resell them?

What kind of price range are you looking at? There is a huge difference in pricing (and in quality) in the UK hosting market.

I'm not aware of a major facility that hasn't raised it's prices in the last 12 months. If cost prices are rising, then the price to the end user has to rise, else they'll go bankrupt - Granted, the TCRB increases do seem a little excessive though.

Most datacenters have raised their prices,, generally because the increased price in power.

Yes, but while others saw it as an inconvenience in having to raise prices for their customers, Redbus saw it as an opportunity to slap a bit more of a profit margin on top of their already high pricing.

Like everything in life quality costs money.

Yes the Redbus price increase was big, this helps the quality providers and hinders the quantity providers.

Right now I don't see any redbus alternative.

I mean rent dedicated servers and re- sell them, Well it doesn't have to be redbus, we are looking for a company similar to LayeredTech, Softlayer etc that ilk.

I haven't found any companies remotely like them here in the uk,
As for budget , that is undecided, quality is important, so we will take into account a couple of companies and go from there.

Its not something the DataCentres themselves traditionally offer. Very few have even forayed into the providing of actual systems, leaving that up to the "tennants", with the better DC's remaining colo-neutral and not competing with their established clientbase.

It somewhat depends on your budget and expectations, there are possibilities, but those which are likely to remain in business over the coming year aren't "cheap", so you have to work out what additional services and value-adds you'd be offering on top of their service(s) in order to work out if there's a place in the market for you.

    There certainly are some!

The silly price increases at Redbus most certainly did not correspond to an increase in service, which has been steadily decreasing in our experience...hence us moving out next month and just keeping a POP there.

Bluesquare are owned by poundhost if im not mistaken. Try poundhost.co.uk i think they do what you are looking for but i dont know much about co location so i could be entirely wrong and poundhost may not be what your looking for.

I would always go somewhere outside London for servers now, power is a big issue and is only going to get worse - reports in computing press recently have said that london is not far away from running out of power, and that DCs are restricted in getting more feeds put in. So Redbus may not just be hiking their prices to cope with the increased bills, but also to ensure they only get those companies that can afford to host in the City.

Bluesquare looks good, and poundhost is located there, and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

For the OP: if you're renting/reselling dedicateds then the location doesn't matter - you call the DC, they do what's needed (its their servers after all). If you're co-lo servers with them,, then yes you need to be able to get to the DC sharpish when one of your servers hardware fails. Many companies offer 'remote hands' so you could check to see what they'd do for you (I'm sure replacing a harddrive or fan would be covered for the usual hourly fee).

Bluesquare are not owned by PoundHost but as far as I know, Poundhost where one of the first to get a suite/racks etc there. INX Gaming where also one of the first to jump into bluesquare and have quite a large presence from what im told.

There are quite a few companies who are in Bluesquare but may not shout about it. Heck im moving in from Friday.

The fact that its not in London is even better

Not as tight as some would have you think, I know of one facility that has just had 10MVA added, in London - Although it is a struggle to arrange it, becase EDF and contractors are concentrating on the Olympics more and more and the Barts (I think) Hospital upgrades.

Thanks so far, yes i know DC's don't usually lease servers, I was looking for a company that had space at a good DC or a company that provided servers and owned their own DC. I have got Three names at the moment, would appreciate any feedback or new suggestions

That's true, but most have increased their pricing by *vastly* more than their actual cost increase in power. It's more to do with the old supply/demand nutshell IMHO.

Yeah, it's certainly do-able, it's just a matter of ££££ and time. It took them over 18 months just to get the go-ahead for that 10MVA connection... and they're having to dig up half of the city to get it

That's as maybe, but my point stands, that it is not impossible to get extra power in London, unlike some would like you to believe.

I didn't say prices had only increased inline with their rises in power, but you already know that's not what I meant
