Thanks, but pricing is a bit too high... 1900$ for unlimited users + All prices are for a single server only.
Probably i'll try to contact them and about about "per site" licencing, but dont expect too much...
You should check into the ASP license. That's what we're on. You get clustering included, so you can span across multiple servers, and you only pay per user, per month. They can email you the pricing, but it's very reasonable.
I hope... Ok, alreadu sent a request
But isnt it too heavy for server? How many users do you have? I imagine its a bit like horde... so maintenance is quite expensive :/ What do you think? And what was the reason you choosed desknow.com?
Thanks a lot for answers
I've been impressed with what the app can do. It's all java, runs great on the server side. Is easy to upgrade and very full featured.
Also has an API for programming.
We've got almost 150 users on ours. We started out on a crappy little $400 Dell sc430 server (Pentium D, 1GB ram, 2x80gb sata drives), but it was buckling under the load. Not the load so much from the users, but a couple of the domains on the box get a huge amount of spam, so it was getting on the order of 50K inbound mail connections a day. (and rejecting about 90% of those)
Just moved the whole thing to a server at SoftLayer and it's working much better. (Dual core woodcrest, 2gb ram, 4x250gb sata drives)
The spam blocking and controls it has are great, and in the new version coming out it's supposed to support any postfix compatible mail plugins for more spam filtering.
We wanted a product we could offer to our customers (small businesses) for email that was better than Horde, which, after all this time, still looks like it got hit with an ugly stick. The fact that it does calendars and files and all the other stuff is just a bonus. And, for companies that would like the features of Exchange without the cost, this gives it to them, and for a cheaper price than hosted Exchange.
We looked at Zimbra and several other similar packages out there, but at the end of the day, DeskNow was easy to setup and install, easy to upgrade, and the licensing price structure was straightforward and easy to understand.
As a VAR and reseller of different products, I get frustrated by some vender websites where you need a protractor and sliderule to figure out the cost. In my mind, if they make it easy for me to figure out the cost, then I can figure out how to sell it and the vender and I both can make money. Some companies setup some strange or convoluted licensing schemes and if I can't figure out what it's gonna cost and what I'm going to sell it for, I just walk away.
DN is also great because you can download the full product and install it on an XP box and play with it and it has all the features enabled for 30 days.
As to specs, I've read in their forums that there are some ISPs and bigger companies supporting as much as 20K users on a couple of xeon or P4 boxes clustered. It seems to scale well. I'd suggest downloading the administration manual from their website (link on home page) and you can get an feel for how configurable it is.
Wow... i just received pricing table Ok, this is definitely too
much... We were looking for some cheaper solution to change sq mail
or uebimiau... or horde... Not like get few licences for few costumer/employees :/ Ok, imagine what we have ~5000 mailboxes... and pricing is 0.25$/user/month. Personally i dont see logic to pay 1250$/month for such script. And we're quite small company... Its possibe to pay up to 100month or upto 1K one tme, but not that sum every month :/ Ok, i imagine what if you 'll offer such one for a bank - it probably will agree, but not for a host... There is a discussion about pricing... its was about ubersmith.com, but it says a lot good things what companies can afford and what is pop. So there is no wonder why DN isnt popular at all...
I believe what its great product.... but i would rather hire some Indian staff to create something similar than... ) (kidding).
Thanks for a nice script review, help and time
