    DNS IP Problem

    Hi guys,

    I need some help. I own an IP say 11.11.11.11.
    I own a virtual server located at say 22.22.22.22
    I point 11.11.11.11 to 22.22.22.22.22 so I can use that IP for a website say xyz.com
    I change the xyz.com domain A address to 11.11.11.11. Pinging it confirms it.

    Now I add the following to httpd.conf

    <VirtualHost 11.11.11.11:80>
    DocumentRoot "/www/mywebsite/www"
    ServerName www.xyz.com
    ServerAlias xyz.com
    </VirtualHost>

    What happens is: When I enter xyz.com the site redirects to another site with ip 22.22.22.22 (main virtual server ip). I need my site xyz.com to open properly. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    cheers!

    I'm very very confused about what you are trying to accomplish here, it seems like you are trying to perform a DNS function using VirtualHosts in Apache. Why not change the A name record for www.xyz.com to point directly to 22.22.22.22 at your DNS provider?

    I didnt understand your requirement completely. However, while adding a virtualhost entry for a domain in the pache configuration, you have to aa NameVirtualhost entry also.

    Please add the line NameVirtualHost 11.11.11.11:80 above the virtualhost entry of the domain xyz.com, restart the apache service and let us know the results.

    The name virtual host is for multiple sites on one ip isnt it?

    I have one site on 1 ip and want the other on another IP. The IP I own needs to point to the viortual server.

    Anyhow I have fixed it now by adding a static route for the ip to the virtual server and adding a loopback interface.
