I am designing a web site with many, many small pages which need to be updated on a pretty regular basis. I will be using a shared server through one of the commonly recommended hosters here. What I'd like to do is to zip/rar/pak these files into one file and upload it. Then unzip the files into the directory remotely. How do I go about doing this?

well if you have telnet access you can... just ftp it up... telnet in and unzip the beast. I do that with my websites... course it's best to tar gzip them if you're using unix based server since for some reason when i tried to use winzip and zip then when i'd upload i couldn't get it to unzip...

If you are on a Windows based machine, it might make more sense to use AceFTP. It allows you to choose an entire directory and upload all of the files in it. It is a fast, nice FTP client. You can hit the upload button and go out for a bite to eat and come back to have it finished. Then you won't have to spend time zipping, unzipping, etc.
