I'm totally underwhelmed.
I also get the distinct feeling that it was not ready to be released:

I don't know what Mark @ Helm was thinking releasing so early.

The only thing that I can figure out is that they were trying to beat DotNetPanel and Hosting Controller to the punch.

Bad move in my opinion.

I believe that it was the worse decision they have taken by releasing an immature product.

I mean what is the worth of releasing a product which cannot be even used by the current clients as there is no Migration tool. A product which is not complete as per the developers. It has less features compare to HELM 3. Moreover, the new version is not even working fine. You can see the threads in their HELM 4 support forums.

HELM or HELL

Helm 4 does already have more features than Helm 3. There are a small number of modules that are still to be deployed after testing but that doesn't stop most people using the product or current clients testing helm 4 while they wait for the upgrade tool.

Personally I beleive we made the right decision to launch now rather than wait until the upgrade tool was complete because it gives people a chance to start to get used to the system side by side with helm 3 until they're happy to make the move - by which time the tool will be available.

We sold well over 100 licences in the first 24 hours so there's obviously a demand for it now.

I do understand people not wanting to upgrade until it support everything they need it too. I'd do the same and I wouldn't upgrade until I've had chance to make sure it does exactly what I need it to.

The important thing is that it's finally out and we can now continue to make improvement and add support for further modules. Our new module system and the new developer program we'll be launching shortly will see the development of a LOT of new modules that will easily make Helm the feature-full product available.

I'm personally very proud of what we've accomplished with Helm 4. It's a huge leap forward, and once people get to see the real power of what Helm 4 will be abel to do they'll understand why it's taken as long as it did to get where we are today. The foundations are now in place for an exciting future for Helm.

You have people who have invested loads into using Helm and you are offering the licenses at 50% off, of course people are going to buy them now rather than wait and pay twice as much when the panel is actually production ready. Just because someone buys a license at 50% the price, does not mean they plan to use Helm 4 at this time.

And here we have what I personally believe is the reason for the release being made. WHA screwed up every timeframe given and reached the point now where you needed to release it before you lost customers.

Too many regular Helm users advised against launching it before it was ready because of the damage it would do to Helm's reputation. You didn't listen, continued to hype it up and then released something that did not match the hype, now you are seeing all the negative comments and WHA have nobody else to blame.

I do believe Helm 4 has the potential to be a great control panel, but at this specific point in time it's in a state I would expect to see during a beta, not in production.

I can fully understand why you would think that but I can assure you that we've released it now because we beleive customer can benefit from it now, not just because we can. We've had a number of oppourtunities to release in the past, such as the October 2nd date we originally set, and we made the hard decision to delay because we decided it wasn't ready. Not it is, even there's a small number of modules missing.

I'm glad you beleive Helm 4 has the potential to be great. We know it does and we'll continue to develop the product to prove it to our customers.

It's basically a beta being sold as a production ready product
