    Windows Management Service

I have a client who's looking to move one of their clients hosting to our company. The end client's site is done in ASP, so obviously it needs to be a Windows based machine. Unfortunately, I have no experience with Windows Based hosting.

Anyone have good experience with, or know of, a company who provides server management for Windows Based Systems?

Thank you to everyone who has been in contact with me regarding this thread.

It turns out that our client is going to convert their site from ASP to PHP in the end, so they won't be going with a Server machine after all. I will be keeping all contact information for everyone that I spoke to for future use.

Wow gotta love the search function! I'm in exactly the same situation as a client of mine also needs windows hosting and I have no experience with it.

Anymore people that might be able to help me with this?

    Hello,

Well asp pages can run in linux machines too. You just need to install the rpm which support asp pages, that's it.

    Thank you.

Many hosts offer Windows but you don't have to use Windows obviously. Microsoft is finally beginning to reach out to the hosting community, so you'll probably hear a lot more about WM using Windows boxes.

True as long as the site doesn't use any advanced features that would only be available on a Windows server. For example, if that site makes use of any server side components then it won't work "out of the box". Actually, it won't work at all if using COMponents.

Even if it's not a very complicated site, it's not a matter of simply uploading and go. Some of the code will still have to be changed (unless it's just a brochure site).

    Cheers.

Yes i've heard of this asp on linux thing too, not too clued in about it. From what I understand it's pretty much in a beta stage and doesn't work with cpanel etc. So you might as well get a windows box if you're planning on hosting a few people on the same server.

I assume you are speaking about the ASP module cPanel "supported", that was just a bad move on cPanels part providing "support" for a extremely unstable module.

ASP is not designed for linux and trying to get the functionality of it is a hell of alot of work in itself, most of the modules are very unstable and not even worth the time or effort.

The old ChiliSoft ASP for *nix was not the same either. I doubt ASP can ever be properly moduled for *nix.

    Thumbs up Asp On Linux

I happen to work for a very large hosting company and would not recommend that you try to run asp on linux or php on windows. Keep it Native! you will have less problems.

I wasn't striktly speaking about anything to be perfectly honest. That bit of info I got from my fully managed dedicated server provider

I have very few people who need asp support so I haven't really done a lot of research about the whole issue. But I have to agree that it's best keeping asp on windows and php on linux!

I agree that ASP doesn't work well with Linux, but what kind of issues you have faced with PHP on windows, can you advise me with an example.
